With strategy to transfer
There are many good reasons to put your own research into application. For example, the goal of creating useful products for the benefit of society, the prospect of exciting collaboration between science and industry and, last but not least, the potential financial returns. The challenge lies in exploiting your technical solution in a variety of ways - for example, third-party funded projects, licensing to an industrial partner or even founding a company. We support you in transforming your technological development into commercial or cooperative opportunities.

Focus on the right topic
KIT provides a clearly defined framework for how you can work with external partners. Within this framework, KIT has the opportunity to invest substantial time and money in promising technologies and transfer projects, for example in the development of a patent portfolio, the creation of technology offers and the approach of potential industrial partners as well as through concrete financing from the KIT NEULAND Innovation Fund, among others. The task of the subject-specific innovation managers at KIT is to support the exploitation of promising technological solutions together with the scientists.
Exploitation potential
When assessing the potential of your technology, we apply the following transparent criteria, among others:
- Feasibility
- Existing market potential
- Protectability of the existing R&D results
- Development status (TRL)
- Common interest of all parties involved in carrying out such a project
In confidential exploitation discussions between researchers and innovation managers, key topics that influence the chances of exploitation are highlighted. These include the unique selling proposition or added value of your solution for users and the technology readiness level (TRL), the protectability of the technical solution, the market potential and feasibility as well as the common interest of all parties involved in the envisaged transfer project.
Once a potentially valuable technical solution has been identified and, ideally, protected, we work with you to develop a targeted exploitation strategy. The aim is to assess the protectability of the underlying intellectual property, sound out the commercial opportunities, identify suitable transfer partners and tap into sources of financing. With the help of the findings from initial market research, a concrete exploitation plan is developed in consultation with you.
The overarching exploitation plan is broken down into specific sales and marketing measures together with you. In order to reach the respective identified market segments, we draw on existing measures and channels. For example, targeted company approaches based on a technology offer or participation in trade fairs are conceivable.
